Not that I actually have time to do this just now (I hear Yule-bears coming closer...) but at the same time, it seems a good moment for a retrospective, and the meme is showing up all over my f-lists. So, herewith my Yuletide catalogue, as we sneak up on this year's deadline:
(2006) The Tale of Marian's Wedding • Robin Hood (traditional)
My very first Yuletide story, wholly traditional but with a twist; as far as I know, I'm still the only writer who's ever proposed this particular take on the legend.
(2006) Inspirations • Dark Is Rising/??
A treat/stocking stuffer; Will Stanton meets a certain YA author at Heathrow, and meta ensues.
(2007) The Solitary Sorceress of Oz • Wizard of Oz
Trot and Glinda have dinner, and we learn Glinda's origin story (or at least my theory thereof). Probably the most widely read of my Yuletide stories; this was picked up last year and republished in the 2011 Oziana fan journal.
(2007) The Story of the Djinni and the Professor • Arabian Nights
A treat; three wishes made by a man of science. I couldn't resist the impulse to play with the conventions.
(2008) Four Views of General Jinjur • Wizard of Oz
A second Yuletide Oz story, with a less traditional structure. Besides focusing on Jinjur, there's some sideways speculation about certain aspects of Oz history, notably the aging question.
(2009) River of Death • Dirk Pitt series (Clive Cussler)
Action hero Pitt escapes a Penelope Pitstop deathtrap, complete with a Cussler cameo. And the flume in the story actually existed....
(2010) The House on the Hilltop • Night of the Solstice (L. J. Smith)
An origin story for immortal sorceress Morgana Shee (and her 500-year-old house in southern California). The fandom is one of the more obscure I've covered, but I'm very fond of this story.
(2011) Player Status: Offline • Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?
What it says on the tin: a look into the cartoon's universe on a day when the Player is AFK. Also, what happens in Ashland stays in Ashland. Another story where I got to indulge my meta tendencies.
(2012) ?????
Heh. That would be telling....
