Meme: 15 Movies

Here are 15 quotes; your job is to guess the movies from which they come.  (For extra style points, identify the actor or character who's speaking.)  A couple of notes on this list, which may or may not be of help: purely for amusement value, I sorted the list alphabetically by film title.  The films date from 1965 to 2015; five are musicals, two are Westerns, and three are Disney movies (by which I mean originated by Disney proper, not from franchises acquired by Disney over time).  All were theatrical releases, although one in particular was an indie project with a narrow distribution window in its initial run.  OTOH, that one also had a couple of other lives on cable and DVD (I bought my disc at a local supermarket/dept. store chain), so it's not hopelessly obscure, only partially so (and worth looking up, IMO).

#13: “Four. The only permissible recorded music shall be the following: Johnny Mathis, Perry Como, Jack Jones, the marches of John Philip Sousa or The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Aw, 12 is James Mason, the latter of Captain Von Trapp's two Watsons.

And I rather agree with him on the point -- there is such a thing as style.

Correct, of course, from Murder By Decree . There are one or two other films in this group that should be easily tagged by certain others in the gallery, but I readily admit that some of these are probably on the difficult side. :-)

Yeah, I haven't a clue for the rest -- I don't watch movies much, mostly because the format is longer than grrlpup really likes. But Murder By Decree was a gimme for me, for what are probably obvious reasons: the pea scene was my initial thought for the huckleberry lyric in the vid.

#3 is coming up in my head for Adam West's Batman, possibly because of the gif set that runs around on tumblr. Doubt that's correct because I thought that was from the TV show, not the movie.

#10 is Bret Maverick, from the Mel Gibson Maverick movie.

#14 is possibly HAL from 2000: A Space Odyssey?

#3 I'd forgotten about that scene! But I couldn't tell you if it was the show or the movie.

You know, I had thought that for #14, too, but it isn't. Or so says the internet, anyway.

You have two out of three for those. #3 is indeed from the 1966 Batman feature film, and #10 is likewise correct. (I grew up watching Bat-reruns on Channel 12 in the afternoons, and bought the complete-series DVDs pretty much instantly on release day.)

However, #14 is not 2001, although I can totally appreciate the rationale for that guess. As it happens, #14 is probably one of the trickier entries for just this reason, although it is also one of the Easter-egg entries targeted to particular readers. Two further hints, though: #14 is in one and only one of the sub-groups I mentioned in the introductory notes, and it would be in the #12 slot if I had sorted the list from earliest to newest by release date.

That one is from The Great Muppet Caper, I believe.

Indeed it is, and it remains one of my all-time favorite bits of Muppet meta.

I need to get hold of a disc copy of Great Muppet Caper, actually; the thing is, I have a really strong aural memory of that "dear" being in the quote, but none of the 'Net sources I checked as I was putting the list together include the word, and YouTube doesn't seem to have that particular scene in clip form.

Weird. I remember it as "It's the exposition, darling," but like you, I've never seen the quote written down as having it.
