The good news: I'm better than 2K words into my Yuletide assignment. The bad news: there's at least that much to go. OTOH, I know where it's going, right down to certain twists fitting much more closely than I originally thought they would (a decision I made largely for comic effect at the outset turns out to dovetail neatly into a key plot point).
