Yes, You Can Do That In Fanfiction, and here's the Dear Scripter letter to prove it.
First, and always most important: thank you -- for taking the plunge into a new fic exchange, for offering to write at least one fandom that's in both our wheelhouses, and for the care and effort that I know always goes into these challenge/exchange stories. I never cease to be delighted at the superb quality of the stories I receive, and I appreciate the thought that goes into producing a story arising out of my often-rambling prompt-letters.
So: first, you want to know what I like.
Pluses for me include strong characterization, well-written dialogue, wit/banter/snark, clever use of canon, well-developed AUs, UST (heavy on both the U and the T), and more. I'm neutral when it comes to matters of gen, slash, and the like -- if the pairing is well-developed, I'll read with an open mind. I'm not into noncon, incest, or adult/child kinks, but have few other outright squicks as long as the relationship is age- and canon-appropriate; OTOH, I mostly don't read fanfic for sexual content (though in a couple of these fandoms, I do enjoy romance plots; see the specific prompts for details).
I will note in particular that I am a sucker for the clever and well-executed crossover -- not because I expect one (Optional Details Being Optional, and such things being well beyond the call of either duty or necessity), but because in more than one of these cases, the potential amusement and/or entertainment value would be particularly high if your writerly imagination should happen to wander in that direction.
Fandom-specific notes below the cut:
Gargoyles • David Xanatos, Elisa Maza, Macbeth, Puck/Owen Burnett
For Xanatos: I’ve always been deeply amused and fascinated with Xanatos’ ability to do good deeds in the service of less-than-charitable ends (or, on occasion, to attempt a nefarious scheme that accidentally turns out to be an act of philanthropy).
For Elisa: I’d be interested in day-in-the-life episodes, or perhaps a tale in which she interacts with Macbeth or Owen on some matter entirely unrelated to gargoyles. *Not* interested in pairing her romantically with anyone other than Goliath.
For Macbeth: Also a good candidate for day-in-the-life episodes, for (mis?)adventures with Owen (especially before he has any reason to be aware of Owen’s dual nature), or for a story building on Macbeth’s interaction with matters Shakespearean (either in Elizabethan times or the modern day).
For Owen/Puck: A tale of Owen Burnett, wizard of high finance; one of Owen operating independently of Xanatos on some particular project; perhaps a 5x1 in the nature of “five times Owen didn’t laugh and one he did”. Please do take full advantage of Owen as “ultimate straight man”, and partner him with whoever you like in the service thereof. (That said, I’m thinking comic partner more than romantic one, and I particularly *don’t* see Owen and Xanatos as a slash pairing.)
This is the one instance where I've supplied character-by-character prompts, mostly because it's also the one case where I've not marked "any" as the character match. I will emphasize here that I'll be happy with any or all character combinations among those I've listed, and with the appearance of such other characters you choose to bring in. I should add here that while I own the full animated series on DVD (no, not the Goliath Chronicles, which Do Not Count as canon), I haven't gotten hold of the post-series comics. OTOH, I have done a good deal of poking around in the online chronologies while researching my own Gargoyles fics.
Kim Possible • any
I will be happy with mission-fic, with almost any well-characterized romantic pairing among this mix of characters you can come up with (well, okay, maybe not Monkey Fist with Kim or Ron), and/or with comedy/crack/crossovers involving any or all of the preceding.
I don't have a lot to add here prompt-wise; what I'll mention is that Kim Possible was the fandom that drew me into fic-writing back in the day, and what's always impressed me about the fandom is that I've seen so much thoughtful, well-developed fic for so many different pairings...and also quite a lot of extraordinarily amusing material, not least a wide and wacky variety of crossovers. I am not expecting an epic here (there are enough of those over on FF.Net); if we've matched on this fandom, just be true to the spirit of the characters and you'll make me a happy reader.
Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century • any
This is one of the rare Sherlock Holmes subcanons where I’m fully on board with giving Holmes a romance, though I will be as happy with casefic as I’d be with Holmes/Lestrade. And I’m always up for stories involving Tennyson, whom I find the most fascinating of Holmes’ latter-day Irregulars – whether background tales or series-based casefic.
When I request this fandom in Holmestice, I can expect my writer to be a full-on Sherlock Holmes geek as well as a fan of this series. For this exchange, don't feel disadvantaged if you're not a full-on Sherlockian. A story arising purely out of the 22nd-century canon will be just as welcome as one drawing on details from Conan Doyle's works (goodness knows the 22C writers took some considerable liberties with the plots of various episodes "inspired by" the original cases).
Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego • any
Carmen’s evolving relationship with Zack & Ivy in this series fascinates me; it never quite turns into a maternal thing onscreen, but it strikes me that the potential for that dimension is there. Likewise – as a glance at my own Sandiego fic will tell you – I am deeply fascinated with the meta elements of the series premise. A story that explores either one of these themes will please me immensely; if you are minded to spin the two together, I reserve the right to be awestruck. (OTOH, pure caper-fic will also be met with wholehearted enthusiasm.)
Not too much to add here, I think -- save, perhaps, that Optional Crossovers Are Optional, and Carmen's antics have always struck me as unusually likely to attract Wacky Crossover Theater (some of which I have, in fact, written). If -- and only if -- you are minded to think in that direction, just about any fandom you see in my AO3 fic catalog and/or DW fandom tags (or here in my requests) can be considered fair game.
Power Rangers Time Force • any
I mainlined the full-series DVDs of this not too long ago, and it remains one of my favorite Ranger arcs of the whole run. Give me Wes and Eric sparring with one another either physically or verbally (before, during, or after the series proper); give me post-series Wes and Jen either together or apart, give me Nadira POV at just about any point in her arc. I’m looking more for character-driven stories than action here, and would be happy to see additional canon characters onstage as appropriate.
As the foregoing suggests, I am a Wes/Jen partisan here -- though if you choose to bring Alex onstage, I hope you'll not treat him too harshly. And a note on Nadira: I added her in significant part because of her unique reform-arc in the final three-parter, but it occurs to me that there could easily be scenes we never saw onscreen from much earlier in the canon timeline that would have helped lay groundwork for her change of heart. (Alternately, I have to think that with the Silver Guardians on duty, there must have been a long-running Battle of Snark between Eric and Nadira that we didn't see *at all* onscreen, fueled in part by Nadira's and Ransik's entirely unexplained ability to teleport at will....)
